We are excited to announce our official band name, Jonah Backus and the Conquerors, based on Romans 8. This section of the Bible perfectly summarizes the message we want to share in our music ministry. It also happens to be one of our favorite chapters in the Bible, and therefore is a fitting inspiration for our band name. I encourage you to check out Romans 8 as a part of your personal Bible study and devotion.
The dictionary defines the word conqueror as "one who gains mastery over or wins by overcoming obstacles or opposition." Because of our sins, we are not able to gain mastery over anything or win any kind of contest. On the contrary, we constantly let down our God when we give in to the devil's temptations and strike out in our swing at obeying God's righteous law. However, Jesus pitched a perfect game and hit the game-winning home run when he lived a perfect life, died on the cross, and rose again on Easter Sunday. Thanks to Jesus, we are part of an undefeated team that always conquers the opposition. Romans 8:31-32 read, "What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all- how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" and verse 35 says, "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?" Thanks to our one-man team captain, we are part of a team that is guaranteed victory, and our trophy is eternal life in the paradise of heaven. Thank God today and always that our Savior conquered the opposition, so that we also are more than conquerors. Thank Jesus for the victory he won, and rejoice in the trophy of heaven. Romans 8:37-39, "No, in all things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." We are more than conquerors! God's blessings today and always!
